Steam Next Fest October 2026 runs October 19 through October 26, from 10 a.m. Pacific on opening Monday to 10 a.m. Pacific on closing Monday. It has not started as of October 11. Steam Next Fest October 2026: when do demos begin?
The opening bell is 1 p.m. Eastern in Ontario on October 19. October 26 is the final festival date. Some studios already have demos public ahead of the event, so an early demo is not proof the festival has begun. A Next Fest demo is free to try, not a free permanent license to the full release. For players: follow the game, not the trailer
Pick a genre, install two demos and judge the actual controls and primary loop. Does the first ten minutes teach you something memorable? Does the game run well on your machine? Does the demo end with you wanting to explore more? Wishlist promising titles, then follow developers for launch information. A striking trailer is not evidence of final performance or quality. For developers: what Valve requires
Valve says participants need a good-standing Steamworks account, a public upcoming-game page, and a publicly playable demo when the festival opens. The full game must release after October 26. Projects cannot participate in more than one Steam Next Fest, and an already released game’s prologue or expansion is not eligible as a fresh upcoming game. Make the first playable minutes count
The event is not only about raw wishlists. For a small studio it is a concentrated opportunity to learn which mechanics players understand immediately, where they get stuck and whether the store description matches gameplay. Prepare feedback channels, check the build on ordinary PC hardware and make sure your screenshots truthfully represent the demo. Do not promise a release date or feature you cannot verify.
