Marvel’s Wolverine Senses Toggles: 6 Major Changes in Update 1.001.006

Marvel’s Wolverine Senses toggles are finally here for the collectible guidance that players have been arguing about since launch. Insomniac’s new update 1.001.006 lets you switch off three of the most aggressive Senses helpers while keeping story-critical guidance intact.

This is not a full redesign of Senses, but it is a meaningful quality-of-life patch because it gives players control over whether Logan’s world is constantly shouting where optional upgrade items are hiding. The same update also tackles crashes, one mission-stopping bug and several visual problems.

Marvel’s Wolverine Senses toggles: what can you disable?

Update 1.001.006 adds separate on/off options for Whisky Bottle Scent Trails, Material Crate Audio Clues and Nightmare Door Roots. These are the optional exploration cues that can make collectibles much easier to spot.

Insomniac is not letting players disable every Senses element. The studio specifically says story-critical Senses will still appear in the world. That is a good compromise: players can reduce hand-holding during exploration without accidentally hiding information needed to finish the campaign.

Update 1.001.006 gives players more control over optional Senses guidance.

1. Whisky Bottle scent trails can be turned off

The scent trail around Whisky Bottles has been one of the most visible complaints. Insomniac had already reduced the intensity of some Senses presentation in the previous hotfix. The new patch goes further and gives players an actual toggle.

2. Material Crate audio clues are optional now

Material Crates can now lose their dedicated Audio Clue if you prefer to find upgrade resources through normal exploration. This is exactly the kind of option that lets one player treat Wolverine like a guided action game while another can make the spaces feel less annotated.

3. Nightmare Door Roots get the same treatment

The third new option controls Nightmare Door Roots. Together, the three Marvel’s Wolverine Senses toggles target optional progression helpers rather than main-story navigation.

4. The patch also addresses community-reported crashes

Insomniac says update 1.001.006 fixes several crashes identified through crash logs and community reports. The studio does not list every crash scenario, so players with a specific repeatable failure should not assume this patch covers it until they test again.

5. A mission blocker in The One That Got Away is fixed

The update fixes a bug that could leave Logan stuck while sliding down a tree in the mission “The One That Got Away.” That is the most important non-Senses fix in the notes because it could directly stop progression.

6. Photo Mode claws and two visual bugs were cleaned up

Insomniac also fixed misaligned claws in Photo Mode, a rare problem that could turn objects white after long play sessions, and an overlapping bathroom sign in the casino caused by a UV mapping issue. None of those changes transform the game, but they make a heavily photographed, cinematic action game look less broken at exactly the moments players notice.

Why this small patch matters more than it looks

The Marvel’s Wolverine Senses toggles are a good example of post-launch feedback turning into an accessibility-style preference rather than one forced design answer. Some players want strong guidance. Others want to scan a room themselves. A toggle makes both groups easier to satisfy.

Community discussion around the original scent trails was unusually loud, which is probably why this tiny feature is getting more attention than several of the crash fixes. It also follows update 1.001.005, which reduced the opacity of Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators before the full toggles arrived.

For a broader look at how the game landed at launch, our Marvel’s Wolverine review roundup covers the split around story, structure and repetition. This patch does not change that debate, but it makes exploration less bossy.

If you stopped using Senses because the cues were too aggressive, update 1.001.006 is worth installing. If you liked the guidance, leave the new options on and nothing fundamental changes.
