Saros Zenith Adds Free Boss Rush, New Game Plus and More Accessible Combat

Saros Zenith is available at no additional charge for owners of Saros on PS5, following its October 19 release. Housemarque’s update gives two different audiences a reason to look again: players who want more control over demanding combat, and players who have finished the game and want new challenges.

The most useful change depends on which group you are in. Start with the accessibility settings if the action has been a barrier. Start with Eclipse Layers or Overlord Rush if you already know the campaign and want a different way to use that experience.

Saros Zenith: choose your starting point

  • Need more reaction time? Look at Slow Game Speed.
  • Holding fire is uncomfortable? Try auto-fire and inspect the control options.
  • Finished the campaign? Eclipse Layers adds a New Game Plus structure.
  • Want focused boss practice? Overlord Rush provides shorter sets and an all-boss gauntlet.
  • Already own Saros? The update itself has no additional charge.

Slow Game Speed preserves the patterns

In the official update breakdown, design lead Abebe Tinari explains that Slow Game Speed gives players more time to read attacks and choose a response. Players can adjust the amount of slowing and choose automatic activation during combat or a manual toggle.

That is a useful distinction for anyone assessing whether to return. More time to process the same pattern can address a different barrier from simply reducing damage. It also gives you a setting to experiment with in a specific encounter, instead of assuming one broad difficulty choice will suit every situation.

This article does not measure the effect on latency, accessibility outcomes or difficulty. Those depend on the player and setup, and we have not tested the update hands-on.

Auto-fire removes one sustained input

Auto-fire makes the weapon shoot when you aim at a hostile. It does not handle reloading, so a perfectly timed reload remains a manual action. Motion Sensor Aiming joins the existing remapping options, while the official product page also identifies high-contrast visuals among Zenith’s accessibility additions.

Before restarting a long session, take a few minutes to inspect these options individually. A comfortable button layout, a clearer view and a manageable pace solve different problems. Enabling several together may suit you, but each should earn its place based on your needs rather than a presumption that there is one correct setup.

Eclipse Layers gives returning players a new progression loop

After clearing Saros, Eclipse Layers opens a harder version of the game through new Armor Matrix nodes. Entry requires a threshold of Carcosan Modifiers, with players choosing the combination of Trials that reaches it. Zenith adds ten Protection Modifiers and ten Trial Modifiers across the wider system.

For experienced players, the interesting question is how combinations alter a run. Instead of treating every challenge option as a checklist to enable at once, inspect the interaction between them and choose a set that produces the kind of pressure you want. That is an evaluation approach, not a tested optimal build.

Overlord Rush is the focused return visit

Accessed through the Primary Unit in Passage, Overlord Rush puts bosses into dedicated sets. The shorter Incursion and Ascension sets each contain three Overlords, while Totality runs through all eight. Global score comparisons can be filtered by main weapon. Online leaderboard use requires an internet connection and a PlayStation account.

For someone with limited time, a defined sequence of bosses is easier to plan around than an open-ended return to campaign progression. It also offers a direct way to revisit a troublesome encounter. Actual completion time still depends on the player, so the developer’s short-session framing should not be treated as a guarantee.

What to do before buying or returning

Existing owners can install the latest update and inspect the new settings and modes. Prospective buyers should use the official Saros product page for the current local price and PS5 details. Zenith being free for owners does not make the base game free.

If you are planning other PS5 purchases this month, our Final Fantasy Resonance launch guide is another starting point for your calendar. Keep a new purchase separate from the lower-commitment option of checking an update to a game you already own.
