Modern Warfare 4 PC Specs: 90 FPS Target, Ray Tracing and October 15 Preload

Modern Warfare 4 PC specs are finally detailed enough to answer the question PC players actually care about: what hardware does this thing want, and what do you get for feeding it more GPU? Activision and Beenox say Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 targets 90 FPS at the recommended tier, supports ray tracing across Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ, and ships with more than 800 PC settings. That is a much more useful picture than a vague “optimized for PC” promise. Check the Modern Warfare 4 Steam page and preorder options.

The official PC breakdown also confirms preload timing, Campaign Early Access, DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR Redstone, Intel XeSS 3, a built-in benchmark tool, and a 115 GB SSD requirement. The catch is just as important: TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are required on PC, and Intel Arc users need Resizable BAR. See the current PC requirements and purchase page on Steam.

Modern Warfare 4 PC specs target 90 FPS at recommended settings

The headline number is 90 FPS. Activision says the recommended configuration is intended to run multiplayer at 90 FPS on High settings. That tier calls for Windows 11, a Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i7-8700K, 16 GB of RAM, and either a Radeon RX 6600 XT, GeForce RTX 3060 Ti or Intel Arc B580 with 8 GB of VRAM. For a giant annual shooter, that target is refreshingly concrete because it tells competitive players what “recommended” is supposed to mean instead of hiding behind an unlabeled preset. Read Activision’s official Modern Warfare 4 PC specification breakdown.

The minimum tier is far lighter: Windows 10, Ryzen 5 1400 or Core i5-6600, 8 GB of RAM, and RX 470, GTX 970 or GTX 1060 class graphics, with Intel Arc A580 also listed. Every tier requires an SSD and 115 GB of storage at launch. That number can still grow with mandatory updates, so anyone living on a nearly full 256 GB or 512 GB drive should budget space before preload day rather than discovering the storage boss fight at midnight. Check the Modern Warfare 4 store listing before launch.

Ray tracing is not locked to one mode

The ray tracing tier is where the requirements jump. Activision lists a Ryzen 7 3700X or Core i7-10700K, 32 GB of RAM, and either a Radeon RX 9070 XT or GeForce RTX 5070 Ti with 16 GB of VRAM for high-quality ray tracing at 4K upscaled. Ray tracing is supported in Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ, so this is not a campaign-only checkbox that disappears the moment you queue with friends. See the official ray tracing specifications from Activision.

Ray tracing support extends across Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ.

That does not mean competitive players should automatically turn it on. If your priority is latency and high refresh rate, the 90 FPS recommended target and the game’s benchmark tool matter more than prettier reflections. The useful bit is choice: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 supports DLSS 4.5, FSR Redstone, XeSS 3 and Filmic SMAA T2X, so players across NVIDIA, AMD and Intel hardware have multiple scaling routes. Compare the PC edition and hardware notes on Steam.

800 plus settings and a real benchmark tool are the nerdy good stuff

Beenox says the PC version includes more than 800 customization options across graphics, gameplay, input and interface. The built-in benchmark runs a simulated multiplayer sequence and reports average FPS, CPU, GPU, ping and input latency, then breaks performance down by zone and suggests settings changes. That is the kind of tool that can turn a frustrating optimization session into ten minutes of actual evidence. Read the official PC feature list.

There are smaller quality-of-life changes too. Enhanced FOV changes the lens behavior near the edges of the screen without simply pushing the center FOV wider. Weapon muzzle effects are dynamically masked around the point of aim to protect target visibility. World and weapon depth of field are separate settings. Weapon bloom is also being replaced with shots based on barrel position, which should make the relationship between where the weapon points and where rounds travel easier to read. Preload starts October 15, Campaign Early Access starts October 16

PC preload begins October 15 at 9 AM PT for digital pre-purchases. Campaign Early Access starts October 16 for eligible digital preorders, while the full game releases October 23 at midnight local time according to Activision. Steam currently lists the title at $69.99 USD for the standard edition, with the Vault Edition at $99.99 USD. See the current Modern Warfare 4 editions and preorder pricing.

There is one security requirement worth checking now rather than later. TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are mandatory on PC because they are part of the RICOCHET anti-cheat stack. That can become a nasty launch-night surprise on older Windows installs or systems where Secure Boot was never enabled. Activision also notes that Intel Arc GPUs require Resizable BAR. Check Activision’s full PC requirements and security notes.

Who should care most about these Modern Warfare 4 PC specs?

If you are building or upgrading a PC specifically for this release, the recommended tier is the useful baseline: RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6600 XT class graphics, 16 GB of RAM and a modern six-core CPU, with the official target set at 90 FPS on High in multiplayer. The ray tracing tier is dramatically heavier, so buying a GPU purely to chase RT is a different budget conversation. Wishlist or preorder Modern Warfare 4 on Steam.

For context, we already placed the game among the most anticipated AAA releases still coming in 2026. These PC details make that October launch much easier to plan around. The specs are not tiny, but the 90 FPS target on midrange hardware is more encouraging than the 32 GB RAM ray tracing tier might make it look at first glance. Check the Steam listing before the October 23 launch.
