Haunt and Seek: 5 Checks for the Free AR Ghost Hunt

Haunt and Seek is a free AR ghost hunt for one to four nearby players on iPhone or iPad. The official App Store listing gives Halloween groups a clear first check: compatible Apple devices, a suitable shared connection and permission for the sensors the game uses.

The developer introduced the released game in an October 23 Unity community post. This is a look at its current free offering and practical multiplayer limits. The post does not establish an exact first-release date.

Haunt and Seek free game: what you can play

Players scan a space to create the AR playfield, then locate ghosts through sound and a visible glow. A host can invite up to three friends on nearby iPhones or iPads. Solo play is also described.

The developer lists rounds of four to nine minutes, configurable in settings. Easy, Normal and Hard change how much help you receive in locating ghosts through walls. The game description says it is free to play with no ads; the US App Store page currently labels the download Free.

No limited-time claim deadline is stated in the sources checked. This is a free app listing rather than a dated giveaway or a promise that its pricing will remain unchanged.

Check the devices and connection first

The US listing names iPhone and iPad and requires iOS 16.0 or later. It shows a download size of 124.7 MB. Use the App Store’s compatibility information on each intended device before planning a group session.

The developer recommends the same iOS version across participating devices for the best multiplayer experience. It describes home Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and explicitly says guest networks will not work. This is nearby multiplayer, so do not plan a session around friends joining remotely over the internet.

For a group, check those basics on every device before scanning the play space. A successful solo session on one phone does not establish that the group’s network and devices will connect as expected.

Understand the requested permissions

The game description says it needs camera access for AR and motion and fitness activity access to use the device’s barometer when determining the floor level.

The developer says the game does not capture or store the video, images or environmental data used by the game. Separately, the App Store privacy label, which is information provided by the developer and not independently verified by Apple, says identifiers, usage data and diagnostics may be collected and linked to identity. Those statements describe different data categories; the environmental-data statement is not a promise of no data collection.

Check the developer-provided privacy information on the official App Store listing if those permissions and data categories affect whether this is a suitable app for your group.

Start with one short shared-space round

Choose a clear play area, check the devices and connection, then use a short round to establish that each player can see and follow the hunt. The developer recommends headphones and keeping a clear path, particularly with dim lighting.

The listing has not yet accumulated enough ratings for an overview, and the developer has not declared supported accessibility features there. The current store description can establish the advertised modes and requirements; it cannot establish how well the experience will work in your room or on every device.

Next step: check Haunt and Seek’s official listing on the intended iPhone or iPad before organizing the group. Price, size and compatibility checked October 24, 2026 on the US listing; availability can vary by region.
