If No Man’s Sky keeps forgetting planets, fauna or other discoveries after the Cosmos update, Patch 7.04 does not appear to contain an official fix for that specific problem.
Hello Games’ September 21 patch notes contain a long list of crash fixes, expedition blockers, settlement issues, corvette problems, VR input fixes and memory improvements. Discovery persistence is not listed among them. Meanwhile, multiple players continue to report planets reverting to Unknown, repeated First Contact states and previously scanned records disappearing or failing to stick.
Did No Man’s Sky 7.04 fix the discovery bug?
Based on the official patch notes, there is no announced discovery-persistence fix in 7.04. That does not prove every underlying discovery problem is untouched, but it means players should not read this patch as an official resolution to the current reports.
Fresh community reports after 7.04 still describe discoveries disappearing within seconds or old records failing to remain visible. Those reports are anecdotal, not proof that every save is affected, but the repetition is strong enough that affected players are clearly looking for an answer.
This is not automatically the same thing as a Discovery Services outage
No Man’s Sky has had periods where online discovery services behave badly, but the current complaints are more specific. Some players describe local-looking persistence problems, including saves where scans or names refuse to remain registered even when the rest of the game is functioning.
One especially useful pattern in player reports is that a new save may behave differently from a long-running main save. That is a clue, not a confirmed root cause. Do not assume your save is corrupted simply because another player’s new file works.

What should you do if your discoveries keep disappearing?
Back up your save before experimenting. Community members are discussing save editors and manual repair ideas, but Hello Games has not endorsed those as the official fix for this issue. Turning a frustrating discovery bug into actual save damage would be a spectacularly bad trade.
If discovery logging is central to what you are doing, consider pausing major scanning or naming sessions on the affected save until the behavior is clearer. You can keep playing other parts of the game, but repeatedly rescanning the same planet is not a great use of your evening.
Most importantly, submit a bug report through Hello Games’ Zendesk with your platform, save age, whether the problem also occurs on a new save, and a short description of what disappears and when. The official 7.04 notes explicitly point players toward the bug-report system.
What Patch 7.04 actually fixes
The patch is still substantial. Hello Games lists fixes for expedition progression, station-claim limits, corvette interactions, rare reload hangs, audio-threading crashes, memory pressure on Xbox One and Switch 2, settlement behavior and multiple VR issues. If one of those was your problem, 7.04 is absolutely worth installing.
But the important distinction is simple: a long fix list is not the same thing as a fix for the thing you searched for.
ZerotoBeast take
Discovery persistence is unusually damaging to No Man’s Sky because cataloging the universe is not side dressing. It is one of the game’s core promises. If your save keeps forgetting where you have been, the safe move is to protect the save, report the behavior and wait for an explicit Hello Games fix rather than gamble on destructive community surgery.
