GTA VI’s $2 Billion Budget? Half-Life 3? 6 Gaming Rumors That Might Actually Be True

Gaming rumors are at their best when they sit in the dangerous little gap between “that sounds ridiculous” and “…wait, that actually makes sense.”

They’re also where one anonymous post gets repeated by seventeen websites, loses every caveat along the way, and somehow wakes up three months later as “Rockstar confirmed this.” So welcome to the first proper ZerotoBeast Rumors & Buzz roundup: fun speculation, but with receipts.

For every rumor below, we’re separating the claim, what is actually confirmed, why people believe it, and our confidence level. Confidence does not mean “we know.” It means how much credible smoke exists around the fire.

And the rumor mill can flip fast. Just this week, a wave of musicians including Travis Scott, Future and Keith Richards posted GTA-styled teasers. Within days, what looked like coordinated fan speculation turned into an official GTA VI soundtrack reveal. That is exactly why rumors are fun — and exactly why dates and sourcing matter.

1. GTA VI really costs more than $1 billion — maybe even $2 billion

Rumor meter: MEDIUM for $1B+ total cost · LOW for the exact $2B number

This is probably the most repeated “fact” about GTA VI that is not actually a fact.

The number floating around the internet is usually $2 billion, sometimes phrased as development cost and sometimes as development plus marketing. Rockstar and Take-Two have never published a title-specific GTA VI budget. There is no official press release, SEC filing or investor presentation saying “GTA VI cost $2 billion.”

So why does the rumor refuse to die? Because even after stripping away the viral number, the financial context is absurd.

Take-Two is guiding toward $8.0–$8.2 billion in fiscal 2027 net bookings and says the increase is primarily driven by GTA VI’s November 19 launch. Its filings also show higher marketing and R&D spending around the release. Rockstar has had studios around the world working on this game for years, alongside an enormous performance-capture, technology, art and marketing operation.

Outside estimates in 2026 have put the likely development spend somewhere around or above the billion-dollar neighborhood, but those are still estimates. The famous $2 billion figure is especially shaky.

Our read: GTA VI becoming the first game whose total production, technology, staff, support and global marketing spend plausibly crosses $1 billion? Very believable. Rockstar secretly having a clean spreadsheet cell reading “GTA VI: $2,000,000,000”? Nobody outside the company has shown that evidence.

2. Valve’s “HLX” project is a new Half-Life game — possibly Half-Life 3

Rumor meter: MEDIUM-HIGH that HLX is Half-Life-related · MEDIUM that it is functionally Half-Life 3 · LOW on any release date

Half-Life 3 rumors are the cockroach of gaming speculation. They survived Episode Three, Steam Machines, VR, several generations of GPUs, and probably your last three relationships.

But the current HLX story is more interesting than the usual “Gabe Newell blinked three times” nonsense.

Dataminers have repeatedly found Source 2 references tied to an internal project commonly called HLX, with code pointing toward physics, AI, destruction and other systems. Valve has never publicly said “HLX is Half-Life 3.” That boundary matters.

Then Valve started making the whole thing funnier. In June, dataminers found a Dota 2 variable named m_bHackWhyAreYouGuysReadingOurVariableNames — a wonderfully Valve-like acknowledgement that people are combing through the company’s code looking for secrets. The variable itself confirms absolutely nothing about Half-Life 3, but it proves Valve is very aware of the archaeology happening around its updates.

The more eyebrow-raising moment came in July. Retiring veteran Valve engineer Christopher Green was asked directly about HLX during a Q&A and replied, essentially, “I think you know the answer to that :-)”. That is not confirmation. It is also the kind of non-answer guaranteed to keep Half-Life fans awake until 4 a.m.

Our read: there is enough repeated technical smoke to take HLX seriously as a real internal Valve project, and a Half-Life connection is plausible. Calling it officially “Half-Life 3,” assigning it a date, or pre-ordering a Gordon Freeman crowbar shrine is still premature.

3. Capcom is making a Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake

Rumor meter: HIGH that the project exists · MEDIUM on reveal timing

This is one of the strongest rumors on the list because it has moved beyond a single leaker.

Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem has repeatedly claimed that Capcom is remaking Resident Evil Code: Veronica. More importantly, Video Games Chronicle reported in January that it also understands both Code Veronica and Resident Evil Zero remakes are in development.

That does not make an unannounced game official. Capcom still has not put a logo on a stage and said “here it is.” But when a recurring series leaker and an established publication independently point in the same direction, confidence goes up.

The project also makes commercial sense. Capcom’s modern Resident Evil remake run has been one of the cleanest revival strategies in the industry, and Code Veronica contains enough important series mythology to deserve more than permanent residence on old hardware and backward-compatibility lists.

Our read: if one rumor here turns into an official trailer without surprising us at all, this is probably it. The shakier part is exactly when Capcom decides to reveal and release it.

4. The next Xbox will let you install Steam, Epic and other PC stores

Rumor meter: MEDIUM

Official Xbox Project Helix logo for Microsoft's next-generation console

This one is fascinating because the confirmed facts walk right up to the rumor and then stop one sentence before saying it.

Microsoft has officially announced Project Helix, its next-generation first-party Xbox console. Xbox says it is designed to play both Xbox console and PC games, uses a custom AMD SoC, and builds on a Windows-based Xbox mode that explicitly embraces the “openness of Windows.”

Microsoft also says players should be able to access games through purchases, subscriptions and “other leading storefronts.”

What Microsoft has not done is publish a retail Project Helix screen showing Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG icons and say, “yes, install these directly.” Those named stores are the leap people are making.

It’s a reasonable leap. If Helix genuinely runs PC games through an open Windows-derived environment, deliberately blocking the PC’s dominant storefronts would be a strange definition of openness. But platform policy, security, UI integration and commercial arrangements can change between a developer concept and final retail hardware.

Our read: third-party PC storefront access fits Microsoft’s stated direction extremely well. We would not call Steam-on-Xbox confirmed until Microsoft names the stores or shows the interface.

5. Persona 6 is aiming for 2027

Rumor meter: MEDIUM-LOW

Official Persona 6 announcement image from Sega and Atlus

Unlike most rumors here, Persona 6 itself is real. Sega and Atlus officially announced it in June for Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, PS5 and Steam.

What is not real — yet — is a release date. Sega’s official page simply says TBD.

The 2027 talk comes from reports that localization work may already be underway. Community sleuthing picked up comments attributed to a game translator who reportedly began working on Persona 6 script material before the public reveal. If accurate, that would imply the project is substantially further along than the tiny teaser alone suggests.

There is also a strategic clue: Persona 4 Revival is already dated for February 18, 2027. Atlus could use that remake to keep the series visible before pushing Persona 6 later in the year — but that’s inference, not a roadmap.

Our read: 2027 sounds plausible, and localization activity would support it. But “plausible” is doing a lot of work here. Atlus has announced no window, and anyone giving you a precise Persona 6 month right now is selling confidence they do not own.

6. Sony is secretly preparing a Bloodborne remaster or PC port

Rumor meter: LOW — we are not buying this one yet

Every good rumor roundup needs at least one entry where we gently remove the community’s tinfoil hat and put it somewhere safe.

Bloodborne remaster rumors have become almost seasonal. A showcase gets announced? Bloodborne. A PlayStation tweet uses the color red? Bloodborne. Somebody at FromSoftware sneezes in 4K? Definitely Bloodborne.

The problem is evidence.

Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida said in 2026 that the lack of a Bloodborne remaster is basically a mystery to him too. That is interesting because he spent years inside PlayStation — but it is the opposite of a production leak. If anything, it undercuts the idea that everyone in Sony’s orbit knows a remaster is quietly coming.

There have been reports over the years about pitches and internal possibilities, and demand is obviously enormous. None of that currently produces a strong, recent chain of evidence for an active remaster or PC port.

Our read: Sony would be leaving money on the table forever if Bloodborne never returns in modern form. That makes the idea believable. It does not make today’s rumor evidence good. Until something stronger appears, this stays Low confidence.

The rumor that became real while we were writing this category

There is a nice lesson in the GTA VI soundtrack story. On September 15, artists including Travis Scott, Future, Metro Boomin and Keith Richards posted suspiciously coordinated GTA-style artwork. At the time, the honest headline was “they appear to be teasing involvement.”

Now Rockstar has officially unveiled a 34-track GTA VI album with major artists involved. Yesterday’s rumor became today’s news.

That is the standard we want for Rumors & Buzz: enjoy the smoke, keep track of who lit it, and move the story from Rumor to Confirmed the second primary evidence arrives.
