Five discounts, five different reasons to play. The best purchase is the one that fits your next evening—not the biggest percentage on the page.

Epic’s End of Summer Sale runs through September 17, and its headline games cover an unusually broad set of moods: becoming a young James Bond, surviving a biological nightmare, rebuilding yourself in Night City, running a sushi restaurant and returning to Los Santos. That makes a single “best deal” less useful than asking what each game is good for.

We checked the live sale cards and individual listings, then looked at the games’ official material. This is a researched buying guide, not five hands-on reviews. The prices below are Canadian dollars as displayed in our browser on September 13, 2026; other regions, taxes and editions can differ.

007 First Light: buy the spy fantasy, not “Hitman with Bond”

IO Interactive’s standalone origin story follows a younger Bond earning his place in the Double 0 program. That gives the adventure a different energy from simply handing the player a fully formed, unflappable secret agent: the premise allows for improvisation, recklessness and learning under pressure.

The official pitch combines infiltration, gadgets, bluffing, hand-to-hand combat and gunplay. The attraction is deciding how to get through an immediate problem while inhabiting a cinematic spy story. Someone drawn to the mixture of social deception and sudden action has a more concrete reason to be interested than “it comes from the Hitman studio.” The same developer does not make the two games interchangeable.

Why consider it now? Epic presents this as First Light’s first discount. At CA$71.99 it remains the most expensive pick here, so the 20% reduction makes more sense for someone already eager for this particular adventure than for a buyer simply hunting inexpensive games.

Before paying: the Windows listing specifies an SSD and 80GB storage. Check your hardware and the exact edition, rather than assuming that a discount compensates for a machine that cannot deliver the experience you want. This is not a preorder: Epic lists its release as May 27, 2026. Our earlier pre-release framing was incorrect and has been corrected.

Resident Evil Requiem: two kinds of fear in one purchase

Requiem’s central contrast is between Grace Ashcroft’s vulnerable survival-horror perspective and Leon S. Kennedy’s more action-oriented experience. Capcom’s ninth mainline Resident Evil combines combat with investigation, puzzles and resource management, and the store describes the option to switch between first- and third-person views.

That is a more useful selling point than simply calling it frightening. The game is pitched around changes in power and tempo: being threatened is not the same feeling as being equipped to fight back. If you enjoy Resident Evil for both the uncomfortable exploration and the release of taking control, that contrast is the reason to look closer.

The camera choice also deserves attention. A player who finds one perspective less comfortable need not judge the game solely by whichever view appears in a trailer. It is still worth checking the available settings and trying the listed demo where accessible, rather than treating a perspective toggle as a guarantee that every player will be comfortable.

Value call: a 30% reduction is meaningful for an interested horror fan, but CA$66.49 is still a substantial purchase. It is a weaker recommendation for someone who dislikes resource pressure, graphic horror or being pursued and is only reacting to the sale badge. This is single-player, not a new co-op campaign to buy with a friend.

The offer is the base game. Check any Deluxe Kit or bundle contents separately and avoid buying content already in your library. We are not assigning a review score or claiming the discount makes it objectively better than the other games here.

Cyberpunk 2077: the strongest low-cost invitation to get lost

Night City sells a particular fantasy: become a mercenary whose body, abilities and choices can be reshaped in a city obsessed with power. The appeal is not merely the skyline. It is deciding whether a job calls for hacking, stealth or direct violence, then inhabiting the character built around that decision.

At CA$23.99, this is the most striking discount among the large-scale adventures in this selection. That makes it a reasonable first look for someone who has been waiting to try the world, provided they want a single-player RPG rather than a shared online city.

Do the edition comparison first. The listed offer is Cyberpunk 2077’s base game. CD Projekt’s Ultimate Edition includes the Phantom Liberty expansion as well. If Dogtown and that separate spy-thriller story are part of what attracted you, compare the full package against buying the discounted base and expansion separately; we have not priced the complete combination here.

Free updates are a different category from that paid expansion. CD Projekt’s Update 2.3 FAQ explicitly says ownership of Phantom Liberty is not required for that update. “Base game” therefore does not mean frozen at its original release state, but it also does not mean every story expansion is included.

Our take: this is the most appealing option here for a buyer who wants a substantial world at a relatively modest entry price. Check the current requirements, not an old launch-era hardware guide, and do not use an old review’s performance observations as a guarantee of how today’s version will behave on your PC or Mac.

DAVE THE DIVER: the smallest spend, with a very clear loop

Dave’s two jobs feed each other. By day, you explore the Blue Hole and gather fish; by night, the catch becomes the basis of a sushi business. Money and resources support better equipment, which opens up new possibilities underwater. The attraction is that progress in one half gives the other half a purpose.

The bright presentation does not mean nothing can go wrong. The official description warns that running out of oxygen costs collected fish and items. That makes a dive a small judgment call: keep pushing for something interesting, or return with what you already have? Restaurant management changes the pace without abandoning the larger progression.

At CA$12.99, Dave is the easiest of these five to recommend to someone seeking a lower-cost change of mood. It is single-player, and it mixes action, management and side activities rather than offering only a peaceful fishing simulation. If you want exactly one of those systems and dislike interruptions from the others, watch the trailer before buying.

The separate In the Jungle content pack is not automatically part of the base-game discount. Start with the core loop if you are new, rather than buying extras just because the total still looks small beside a full-price release.

GTA V Enhanced: good for a newcomer, unnecessary for some owners

Los Santos offers two different reasons to turn up: the story of three criminals drawn into escalating heists, and the broader multiplayer world of GTA Online. Enhanced adds a newer PC presentation and features, while Epic’s purchase also includes Legacy for hardware that does not meet the Enhanced requirements.

That distinction is useful, but the most important buying advice is even simpler: check whether you already own GTA V on PC. Rockstar made the Enhanced upgrade free for existing PC owners. A sale badge is not a reason to pay again for access you may already have.

For a newcomer, CA$22.49 is an accessible price for exploring the campaign and online side. For a returning player, the decision is more about the correct edition, existing library and migration than the percentage discount. Rockstar describes progression migration as one-time; it is not a casual way to keep every version synchronized indefinitely.

Do not assume that the word Enhanced makes every friend’s installation compatible with yours or that a console purchase is the same as PC ownership. Verify the version your group uses and the relevant account requirements before making multiplayer the reason to buy.

Our shortlist, based on intent

For the smallest spend and a distinctive daily loop, start with Dave. For a large single-player world at a deep discount, investigate Cyberpunk. Choose First Light because you want Bond, and Requiem because its particular kind of horror appeals—not because either is the cheapest entertainment available. Put GTA V through the ownership check before it reaches your cart.
